When I travelled Portugal last December, it was an absolute must for us to visit the old town of Lisbon. Due to that, the Bairro Alto Hotel seemed to be the perfect choice. While some things were very good at the hotel, we were kind of disappointed by the rooms. After leaving I had a mixed feeling, a good basis to review the hotel in detail!
It is located right in the center of the “upper town” (what means “Bairro Alto”), the party district of Lisbon. Right across the street you’ll not only find bars but also nice restaurants. The historic tram is also departing right in front of the hotel, so you’ll be able to jump on for a ride! But let’s come back to the luxury hotel.
The check-in went smooth even though it took some minutes. The receptionist of the Bairro Alto Hotel told us to just have a little glens of the room and instantly rush to the rooftop terrace hotel motel brokers afterwards. We had a choice of two rooms and were asked which we preferred. Not so at dinner. That was another very positive aspect about the Bairro Alto Hotel I want to stress in this review. The dinner really was high class, even though the restaurant is very small. We choose a very well-cooked meat and assorted vegetables. The starter as well as the dessert were amazing, too.

If you are searching for a hotel in Lisbon, you’ll see that most places are not really cheap. You won’t get a good hotel for less than a 100 euros, but the Bairro Alto Hotel usually charges more than 200 euros. In my opinion, the value for the money is really questionable in this regard. Remember: There is neither a real fitness studio (only a few machines) nor a real spa (a room for massages) nor a pool nor a big choice to have dinner.
Also the rooms are too small for a luxury hotel in my opinion, even though they tried their best to make them comfortable (you may opt for one of the better categories to get a really nice room). The service is very good, so is the location. Food is something I want to stress very positive as well, but apart from that, my experiences were not too positive considering the high prices.
