Thanks Cynthia and others - I am hoping for a decent weather day, then exiting a Westminster should
We will be arriving in London (LHR) on a Sunday fairfield inn orlando fl midday - we are hoping to take the tube to our hotel - we will have one midsized suitcase each. It seems the nearest tube station to our hotel is St. James Park, tho Westminster may be not much further. fairfield inn orlando fl Is St. James a luggage friendly station? Also it seems the best route is to transfer to the green line (District?) but this line seems a bit odd to me as it has multiple off-shoots. I assume we just wait and watch until we see a train marked with the end station we need?
Also any mid-priced restaurant suggestions near our hotel would be welcome - I'm thinking we are not in the best location restaurant wise but we liked the looks and price of this hotel and it is close to many of the "iconic" sights.
The tube question part is easy....you take the Picadilly line to Hammersmith...walk across the platform and tgake the first rainthat comes in on the opposite track which will be a district line train which will stop at both St. James Park and Westminster.
The District fairfield inn orlando fl line, although I'm not familiar specifically with the stations, operates near the surface fairfield inn orlando fl so at most stations, there will be a short flight of stairs up but nothing really high and there shouldn't be a problem.
From memory, St James's Park has no escalators, so maybe a couple of dozen steps up to the street. Westminster was largely rebuilt when the Jubilee Line was extended, fairfield inn orlando fl so I think you might find it easier for getting luggage up to the street. On the other hand, St James's Park is much nearer your hotel (about 100 yards), whereas from Westminster you'd have to schlep the luggage across Whitehall and around Parliament Square.
No problem changing at Hammersmith - all the eastbound District (green) Line trains go to St James's Park and Westminster (none of them turns off on the other branches, except perhaps if something almost inconceivably unusual is happening).
Stay at at Sanctuary House on my last trip, with my niece. St. James is a lot closer of course, but Westminster is shown on the step-free tube map as having easy access. I choose to get off there as I wanted my niece's first view of London to be of Westminster Palace and the Big Ben tower and Westminster Cathedral, and she was suitably impressed. We had rolling luggage and it is not that far.
Thanks fairfield inn orlando fl Cynthia and others - I am hoping for a decent weather day, then exiting a Westminster should be fine. We will try the pub - did you eat at any other nearby restaurants or venture further afield for your dinners?
All but one of our dinners were away from the hotel area. We had dinners fairfield inn orlando fl at Wright Brothers at Boroughs Market, at Relais de Venice, at a Turkish place on Belvedere Road close to the London Eye, and one at a fish n chips place on New Oxford Street. Also, one at Cafe Rouge, a chain sort of place in the upstairs shopping mall area of Victoria Station. Certainly none of these would be considered upscale, with the possible exception of Wright Brothers a little, but all suited us very well.
I don't know where the hotel is but if it's in the vicinity of Victoria station, you can try the Albert pub on Victoria Street. I like their upstairs restaurant which has either a two course or three course dinner fairfield inn orlando fl at not so expednsive rates. Also right next to the Victoria Palace Theatre in a sort of mall up an escalator is a brnach of Wagamama sort of a slightly (very slightly) upscale Japanese noodle chain but I happen fairfield inn orlando fl tgo love several of their dishes...it's almost directly across from Westminster Cathedral.
