Stayed 3 nights March 2013. Location is really perfection - it is right on a great part of the beach, and both close-in to restaurants and shopping and far away enough to be really private and quiet - it's about 5 minutes or less drive to Emerald Isle proper, with very decent food, grocery, even hardware store.
The layout is equally great: 2 beds up and 2 down, each with its own ensuite bathroom. Nice, large "great room" area, lots of seating at both dining and casual areas, absolutely huge foyer, decks, and open space, the place just feels totally open.
Now, for the deductions, and they are all maintenance related. First of all, we had no heat downstairs nearly the entire time we were there. This was early March, and it was a very cold March, and we were cold. We called shortly after checking in, and were told there was nothing that could be done that night, had to be next morning. Following mid-morning, a guy showed up and put some freon in the heat pump for the downstairs. It lasted about 16 hours, and went out again that next night (a Sunday night no less - we didn't even bother to call that time). Next, the decking basically needs to be replaced all around the house. There are nails sticking up, warped boards, splinters, etc. I guess to some this could be charming in a painting on the wall, but not when you want to walk on it with little or no footwear down to the beach after a couple of beers. Lastly, it's just basically in need of a 1-week overhaul to fix what's broken, scrape, paint, replace hotels san diego california the appliances and Hvac. And then it would move from 3 stars to 5 stars.
The house is in a great location hotels san diego california and has a nice view of the ocean. The only things I would change/fix would be the back sliding glass doors. They don't open very easily. The salt water and sand has started to corrode the tracks they slide on. I would also fix some of the one by six pieces of wood on the decks. Once again the salt water has made the wood warp and has caused some to the nails to pop too. You and little kids have to be very careful if you walk on it with bare feet. The air conditioner for the upstairs would not go below 70 degrees. I tried everything to get it cool upstairs. Some of the pots and pans were really dirty and old. I wish they didn't cover the fire place with a stained glass picture, I would of liked to use it. Some of the furniture is different then the pictures online (need to be updated online). It's was listed as a three bedroom house but has four. I would like to see some care be put back into the house.
Our maintenance department has been busy during our off season inspecting the decks of each of our rental homes to ensure the safety of each of them as well as the safety of each of our guests. While it is normal for the nails and fasteners to pop with age, no other items were noted which would pose a safety concern with the deck of Waterloo.
Beach front property has somewhat unique configuration. Very nice living space, and great view from the master bedroom deck on the second floor. Also has nice sitting area and end of boardwalk. hotels san diego california But be careful, boardwalk slopes hotels san diego california down slightly and has a tricky step.

We reserved the house next door, the Calypso, however, upon checking in we noticed the aC was not coming on. Turned out the unit was dead and it was going to be Wednesday before it could be replaced. Also, the downstairs bathroom hotels san diego california sink would fill up with water every time you used the upstairs bathroom sink. All this even though there was a card there in the house with a name of the person who "checked" this house before we arrived!
Emerald Isle Realty responded very quickly and Sunday morning we were offered the house next door at the same price, even though it had more square footage. Great. Upon moving in we noticed the upstairs aC unit in this house wasn't working. After a call the repair man repaired the aC Monday evening.
My family has rented from EIR for years and recently the quality we have come to expect just hasn't been there. Both of these houses had different furniture in them than what was in the pictures online. The Calypso has more furniture in the pics than is actually there. As a real estate broker I think this is unethical.
I will begin asking if a rental is listed for sale as both the Calypso and the Waterloo are. Sellers take out the good furniture and mattresses and are less likely hotels san diego california to do a quality repair on a system, more likely to patch it until it sells.

While it is true that vacation rentals change owners from time to time, more often than not they remain vacation rentals and in most cases existing furnishings and other personal items are included in the sale of a property.
