ROUTEHAPPY, the flight-search start-up that we covered last week for its round-up of airline internet offerings, aims to help users find the "happiest" flights. It does this by emphasising renaissance cleveland hotel a "flight happiness" score in its search results . You still see the prices, and you can re-rank the results by price, but the happiness score is highlighted. Gulliver has long been a fan of Kayak, the flight-search site now owned by Priceline, because of its ability to pinpoint the lowest renaissance cleveland hotel prices renaissance cleveland hotel available for a given route. But as someone who has suffered through many a bad flight, I care a lot about flight quality. I'll almost always be willing to pay a premium for a nonstop service, especially if it's from or to a convenient airport.
Kayak makes it easy to search for nonstops and to customise your search by airport. renaissance cleveland hotel So does RouteHappy, but it will have to offer something new in order to threaten the incumbent. That's where the happiness scores come in. They incorporate data about "25 seat types, 20 entertainment options, 55 seat configurations, Wi-Fi, and more", according to the company , and they seem to pass the smell test.
For a trial run, I looked at flights between Washington, DC and San Francisco, a route I know well. The scores seemed mostly accurate. renaissance cleveland hotel Virgin America's direct flights got high marks; United's did okay; and indirect flights fared much worse. I had one quibble, though: it's hard to argue that many people would prefer to fly out of Washington's Dulles International Airport (IAD) instead of Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA) . National is much closer to the city centre and is cheaper and easier to access from downtown DC. Yet Virgin's renaissance cleveland hotel DCA-SFO flights scored slightly lower than its IAD-SFO flights.
The discrepancy, it seems, has to do with lower flyer reviews of the DCA flights. But that's exactly the problem: different flyers have different priorities. I care deeply about airports and direct flights; someone else might be more concerned about seat pitch or flying on a particular airline. RouteHappy has a partial solution: its main happiness scores do not shift based on your priorities, but you can re-rank your search results by the "happiness factors" you care about—WiFi availability, seat pitch, entertainment options, renaissance cleveland hotel etc.
Airlines have been trying for years to convince flyers to care about quality, rather than simply focusing on ticket prices. (That flyers don't seem to be loyal to the airlines that get the highest marks is exactly Virgin America's problem .) Maybe RouteHappy will finally do the trick. .
Routehappy misses the most important parameter of any flight: % of on-time arrivals. An on-time flight is a happy flight. Think of the missed renaissance cleveland hotel holidays, weddings, girlfriends, dinners and funerals caused by a delayed flight.
Most people sell happiness. The product or service being sold is designed to make you happy (or prevent unhappiness). Traditional airline booking websites believe that saving money will make their customers the most happy. This one believes it is something else. The market will determine whether they are correct.
lol his name is hedgefundguy, NPWFTL is his way of saying he hates social media - he is more likely to contact you using a letter than facebook but I wouldnt bother if you are under 50 - he also dislikes the young.
If you want to leave a review or participate in the social renaissance cleveland hotel side of our reviewer community, we ask for some basic name/email type info so we can attribute your comments and get in touch if we have any questions, and we offer optional links with your TripIt account and social media services, but that's it. You choose how much information, if any, you're comfortable sharing with us.
It's an interesting challenge, of course, not least because domestic US and international on-time performance isn't measured in the same way, and we want to make sure that we're consistent and helpful in what we show. But keep an eye out...we're excited to be working on it.
We also show seat width (NYC to Paris, Air France's A380s have over an inch more elbow room than its 777s), specific type of entertainment, Wi-Fi availability, power plugs, USB sockets, renaissance cleveland hotel and how many neighbors you'll have in your row.
The interesting thing is that many US airlines renaissance cleveland hotel (a favorite target for passenger experience derision) are investing heavily in their onboard product. American Airlines' new business class is the same as Cathay renaissance cleveland hotel Pacific's. US Airways and Delta have a similar version of the same seat. And there are new planes, cabin upgrades and Wi-Fi rollouts in the pipeline renaissance cleveland hotel for many of them.
Feel free to let me know if you have any further questions or need clarification — I'll be keeping an eye on comments here, or you can get in touch with us on Facebook/Twitter: our username is Routehappy on both.
