I wake up after considerably more sleep than the night before. My feet hang about 24 inches off the end of the pull out couch, but that s nothing new. The dog crate to my right and below my feet remind me where I am when I open my eyes.
For breakfast, he takes me to a famous local eatery right next to Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Tide s home turf. Rama Jama, located literally on the corner celebrity cruises panama canal across from Bryant-Denny on Paul W Bryant Dr has been serving up some up Tuscaloosa celebrity cruises panama canal s finest eats for decades. The walls are covered with Bama pride and history. Old sports schedules/rosters, pictures of the owner with University legends, flags, banners, you name it, it s up there. There might be one foot of open space, total, on the walls. A Bama fan s paradise, an Auburn fan s hell.
We sit at a table that has, and I m not joking, Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson, and Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sports sat here, etched onto the top. The table next to us has another name etched on it. Grad student tells me who it is, but I don t recognize it so I move on. The ceiling tiles have been turned into almost a checkerboard pattern of National Championship teams and Heisman Trophy winners. This, I must admit, is impressive. If I put every single one of my own personal accomplishments on ceiling tiles and tried to hang them up, I d fill up like 4. Maybe.
The food comes out and without overdoing it, let me just say that it s perfect celebrity cruises panama canal breakfast food. I cover most of it in Texas Pete, because that s what people who know what they re doing do. I make a biscuit sandwich out of some of the thick ham and egg. Mind = blown. I take the rest of the plate and mix everything together (boss move #2 of the meal if anyone celebrity cruises panama canal s keeping count). Salty ham, crispy hash browns, soft scrambled eggs.
Around 9 my partner in crime for the next few days, his name shall be Bug, gets off work. Bug went, as you can probably guess, to college with me and is from Baton Rouge, so will be the perfect guide for my Cajun adventures.
A quick tour of LSU s campus, around the lakes, by Death Valley, by Mike the Tiger s batting-cage sized outdoor facility, through the areas of bars near campus and downtown, we cover a lot of ground. Finally, we stop at a place that, apparently, rules high above all concerning late night grub. Louie s.
Louie s has been around since 1941. Serving breakfast all day (and all night), and sitting in a part of town known as the North Gates, celebrity cruises panama canal it s become one of the most, if not the most, popular spots for your late night munchies.
In what is basically celebrity cruises panama canal an old diner, Louie s has a long counter that you can sit at, as well as tables against the outter blue-ish green painted walls. Checkerboard floors, a mural of a beach (lake, maybe?) scene on the far left wall, round red diner stools coozying up to the counter It s your essential old school eatery. We get there a little before midnight, after the dinner and before the late night crowd. It s also Wednesday, so there s that too. We walk in, take a couple seats at the counter and order.
The food comes out quick, as we re one of only 3 groups in here. The steak is fried to a golden brown, covered in white sausage gravy, sitting next to a pile of scrambled eggs. I m about to dig in when the order of hash browns hit the counter. Ill let the picture celebrity cruises panama canal do the talking.
I manage to get the steak and eggs down, no problem. Unfortunately, I only get about 3 bites into the hash browns celebrity cruises panama canal before my stomach tells me I should stop before it mutinys against celebrity cruises panama canal my body and embarrasses all parties involved.
Bug continues the tour of Baton Rouge, pointing out some more of the college bars in an area called Tigerland. Groups celebrity cruises panama canal of undergrads stumble down the sidewalk in Christmas attire, obviously coming back from some holiday-themed party. We both express our extreme hatred and envy of them.
Something about being from Baton Rouge must make you a good guide for showing people around. Panda, in Baltimore, was awesome. Now Bug is filling in. Every neighborhood we enter he offers a little bit of knowledge about it. Who lives there, what it s like/used to be like there, when you shouldn t go there, where to make questionable decisions there, why you should drive fast through there.
We make our way back to Bugs parents house, situated down some back roads from LSU s campus. When were about 2 blocks from the house, the realization that my car is still at the house from earlier hits us.
