SESAC's annual Nashville Music Awards recognized the year's most-performed country and Americana songs written by the performing rental car rates rights organization's members. This year, one of the night's top honors went to a country star — Keifer Thompson of husband-and-wife country duo Thompson Square — who was named SESAC's rental car rates songwriter of the year.
"It's fifty percent of it," Thompson told The Tennessean on the red carpet. "I can't do one without the other. I've been writing songs since I was about twelve, thirteen years old. That was the first thing I started whacking away at when I got to town, and I've been doing it about every day since."
rental car rates Kicking off what may be a big awards week for "Cruise," the country/pop hit recorded by Florida Georgia Line  was named SESAC's song of the year. Among the song's co-writers was Nashville singer/songwriter Jesse Rice , who said he couldn't have imagined the journey it would go on when it was written in his Sylvan Park living room.
"It was the right sound, the right guys, the right time," he said. "It was a confluence of events, and those are rare, especially rental car rates when it's a new artist. To launch a career, to be a part of that, it's a very special thing."
"You" and "Cruise" were two of 13 country songs earning performance activity awards, encompassing a range of songwriters from rock legend Bob Dylan ("Wagon Wheel") to Lady Antebellum 's Hillary Scott and SESAC's 2012 songwriter of the year Catt Gravitt .
Dylan was also among 11 "Americana honorees" — recognized by full albums — along with releases from roots-pop phenoms Mumford Sons and The Avett Brothers . Snippets of these recordings played over the loudspeakers as the winners took the stage to pose for photos, but a few were brought to life by the writers and performers themselves.
Rising singing/songwriting duo John Davidson and Jacob Bryant took on "Done," their hit for country trio The Band Perry, while Thompson Square turned attention to their new single, "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About."
