You left out the LGBT community - we're out hyping all of these projects and moving into the lofts and condos, pushing our friends to come downtown for the ArtWalk to check out LA Live; we've already been coming downtown for years supporting the theaters, the opera, ballet, Disney nags head vacation rentals Concert Hall. The community was hosting the Outfest Film Festival at the Orpheum when everyone else was afraid to hold nighttime events here. Just sayin'!! It wasn't cool until the gays moved into the neighborhood... ;)
Jon, I typically love to read your column but this has to be the most lame assessement of power players. You need to get from behind your desk out into the communities and talk to the people who these corrupt politicians have hurt. We have our own list and it doesn't come close to this at all. You're a lil naive
AUSTIN IS A JOKE!!! That dude spent 5 months taking credit nags head vacation rentals for Bud Ovrom's work, 5 months trying to figure out how the City works and 5 months running for Mayor. The taxpayers got about what they paid for with Austin $1. Austin, however got a year of free self promotion. Any wonder why he is now afraid to leave the Mayor's office. (bc no one will care who he is the next day)
42 candidates for most powerful, an the only person who is an arts professional is Dudamel? What about Michael Ritchie, whose three theatres under the CTG banner produce more theatre annually than any other regional theatre. If power aggregates at the top only among politicos, bureaucrats and developers, no wonder we're in such a deep trench!
Feedback: My friend said, Why isn't Michael Ritchie on the list? Good question. She points out that he produces the most theater in the West. Is she right? Where should he be on the list?-Sue Laris, Editor Publisher, L.A. Downtown News.
Read the Bloomberg piece on the proposed scam AEG is trying to pull. Amazing what you can do with other people's money - LIE-weke is nothing more than a used car salesman who greases pols to get tax breaks, subsidies and benefits that a city like LA can't afford nags head vacation rentals - all the while lining the pockets of a reclusive Denver billionaire who can't be bothered to show his face in the city. The mayor, council and blue ribbon panel evaluating the stadium (and it is a stadium project despite what they push as the convention center renovation - AEG didn't sell Farmers on a convention center sponsorship) nags head vacation rentals should be ashamed at what they are allowing to happen. Enjoy those 50 yard line seats - your constituents would be lucky to afford a hot dog there.
Eli Broad - the billioniare who steals $52 million of city money so he can have his own parking garage next to his art museum while children in Hollywood can't have the Garfield Community Park. Why? Broad stole $52 M so the city says it cannot afford a park for kids. And you thought Monty Burns was a fictional character on The Simpsons.
