Recently, a reader and friend asked me for some tips on finding cheap hotel rooms. I put together a list of some of my hotel booking resources, and realized I could share them with you all. In this post, I'll start with promos offered by major hotel...
Phuket is much larger than many people think, and is actually an entire island in Southern Thailand, with several rental cars in san diego different towns on it. The largest rental cars in san diego is Phuket Town, in the center/east of the island. Most of the bigger resorts are on the west side of...
Of our three nights in Vietnam, we spent two at the Intercontinental on paid nights, and then switched over to the Park Hyatt Saigon, using my free one night that I get each year as a Hyatt Visa cardholder. This is a perk that can make the $75 annual...
Bangkok has a ton of relatively affordable hotel options. That being said, rates were higher the week we were going than usual. Starwood happens to have an extremely wide footprint in Bangkok, with at least one properties from eight of its nine brands!...

Our trip to Philadelphia rental cars in san diego started late Friday evening. The 10pm Amtrak was half the price of trains earlier in the evening, so we grabbed dinner in Manhattan after work, and then headed to Penn Station. The train was pretty empty, although I had the misfortune of having a passenger in front of me who must have smoked an entire pack of cigarettes while the train was stopped in New York, and felt the need to repeatedly recline his seat all the way back, and then jerk it up, every 20 minutes on our 1.5 hour ride. As usual, Amtrak's wifi was horrible, but free. It was a short trip, and then a short taxi ride to the Radisson Plaza – Warwick Hotel.
The Warwick is a large, older hotel, near Rittenhouse Square and close to many other hotels. The location is great, a few blocks from great shopping and eating, and we ended up not using any transportation other than our feet our whole time. It was nearly rental cars in san diego midnight by the time we checked in, so I didn't get to explore the hotel that much, but it was overall fine bordering on nice, and a great value. (My apologies for the pictures; my camera failed and I was left to my Ipod camera).
As a Club Carlson Gold member, rental cars in san diego we were upgraded to a room on the "Plaza Club" floor, which included lounge access. The lounge had very limited hours though – happy hour in the early evening, which we missed, and breakfast.
Overall, the rooms seemed to be quasi-updated. The furniture and bathroom were new, and there was a huge HD flat panel TV. The wallpaper and carpets were a little worn though, and the hallways seemed rental cars in san diego a little dingier. Still, definitely the nicest Radisson (not Radisson Blu) I've stayed in. The wifi was free and fast, and I was pleasantly surprised by the gym, which had a large variety of weight-resistance machines, free weights, and about 10 cardio machines. Breakfast at the club was a bit of a disappointment, as it was simply cereal, granola, oatmeal, rental cars in san diego store-bought muffins and bagels, yogurt, a mediocre selection of fruit, and, oddly, cheese blintzes. I also did not get my Club Carlson Gold welcome amenity, but I'll chalk that up to our arrival rental cars in san diego late in the evening.
It was definitely much nicer than our second hotel, the Residence Inn Center City. I had an expiring Marriott Free Night certificate, which I received with my anniversary for Marriott Visa membership. Generally, this perk is enough to justify having the card and its $65 annual fee. Unlike some other cards, though, the free night is not good all year, but only for a few months. It is also only good at level 1 through 5 properties, which rules out a lot of locations. I hadn't found a use for it yet, so figured I'd use it at one of the three Center City Philadelphia locations, which are all next to each other: a Residence Inn, a Courtyard, rental cars in san diego and a Marriott.
Each of the three properties was available for use on the night I needed. The location distinction was meaningless. rental cars in san diego All had rooms going for $169 a night. The reviews on TripAdvisor and Flyertalk were more or the less the same. So I went with the Residence Inn, as I could get a suite, and it included rental cars in san diego both free breakfast and free wifi.
The hotel is right across rental cars in san diego from Philly's gorgeous City Hall. That's pretty much all I can say for it. The lobby has extremely low ceilings, and feels dark and musty. The second floor bar area is much more what you would expect from a lobby. Our corner room had one of the weirdest layouts I've ever seen, with a small kitchenette and living room, tiny sleeping area, and oddly configured bathroom. No picture could do it justice. The room was straight out of 1995, and the furniture showed it. Wifi was fast and free. As for the breakfast, it only is offered til 10a.m. on the weekends, so by the time we got up and down there, we were out of luck. I ve never seen a hotel where breakfast stops at 10 on the weekend before.
The hotel was very crowded and boisterous, and I could see staying there if you needed a kitchenette for some reason. Otherwise, the Courtyard next door looked much nicer. Given that the rate for the Radisson, even without a BRG claim, was $40 less, and the Radisson is in a better location, it should be a no-brainer.
The weather was beautiful, though, and we had a great time walking around the City both days. We had one of the best meals I've had in a long time at Alma de Cuba, on Walnut Street, highly recommended. After Sunday brunch, we had a painless trip back to New York on Amtrak.
