Remember a couple best car rental rates from newark airport of weeks ago when thousands of book bloggers gathered in New York for BEA ? Well, I have a confession to make. I was there, too, but did not attend BEA (gasp!). My daughter lives in the city and, since she was off Thursday and Friday morning, I decided on an impromptu visit.
Thursday morning, we walked to Chelsea Market and met up with a small group for a Foods of New York Tour . Our guide Darryl, a delightfully funny actor who often broke out in song, entertained us for three hours as we ate our way through Chelsea Market and the Meatpacking District.
Weekend Cooking , hosted at Beth Fish Reads , is open to anyone who has a food-related post to share: Book (novel, nonfiction) reviews, cookbook reviews, movie reviews, recipes, random thoughts, gadgets, quotations, photographs. If your post is even vaguely foodie, feel free to grab the button and link up over the weekend.
We missed you at BEA, but I m glad that you had such a wonderful tour. I always bring people to Chelsea Market and to the Highline, they really are must-sees in NYC. I love your photos too! Reply Delete Replies JoAnn June 16, 2013 at 10:34 AM

What fun!! Soon after I moved to Boston I took a culinary walking tour of the North End ... samples, inside information, and fresh pasta! Yours sounds equally delicious (except for those scary spiny things on the produce stand). Reply Delete Replies JoAnn June 16, 2013 at 10:43 AM
The only think I m sorry about is that you didn t tell us you were in the city! We could have met for lunch, dinner, or a drink! I love the High Line -- it s one of my favorite places and a great place for photography. Reply Delete Replies JoAnn June 16, 2013 at 10:46 AM
Beth F - I ve already got BEA dates saved for next year. I was regretting the quick trip almost as soon as I arrived. Was on the train home after breakfast on Friday :( Delete Beth F June 17, 2013 at 5:51 AM
What a fun time! I grew up just outside of Philly, yet I never made the trip to New York, as close as it was on a train. Kathy - Wouldn t it be fun if a group of bloggers did a tour next year? This one was 3 hours, but they have some that are only 2... might be a nice break from BEA festivities! Delete Reply Booksnyc June 16, 2013 at 6:56 PM

I just did one of Adriana Trigiani s walking book tours this past weekend. My mom and I did the Greenwich Village walking tour and it was fantastic!!! We started in Greenwich Village, made our way through that and over to the Meatpacking best car rental rates from newark airport district and then walked the Highline from the beginning to Chelsea Market where the tour ended. After my mom and I grabbed a quick bite to eat for lunch (at Amy s Breads) we continued walking the Highline to the end. It was so much fun and I definitely want to do another walking tour in city. The tour you did sounds fun, too! Delete JoAnn June 17, 2013 at 9:29 PM

I was going to say how awful that you didn t go to BEA but then after reading about your awesome tour I think more people should take time out of BEA to be foodies for a few hours :) Reply Delete Replies JoAnn June 18, 2013 at 7:59 PM
