It had long been on my list to stay at the beautiful, luxe Saint James in Paris and I finally realized that dream in July of 2012! It was everything I had imagined and more! Located in the exclusive 16th arrondissement, this uber chic Relais Chateaux midtown properties houston property is the only chateau hotel in Paris and is set on its own garden. Tres romantique!
The Saint James Paris has always fascinated me to start, this is a hotel which began life as a neoclassical mansion built in 1892 - and if that is not enough history, located on the site of what was then first hot air balloon aerodrome in France. Now, of course, this same location is city center Paris, in the elite, residential 16th arr, slightly off-beat, but still within walking distance to the Champs-Elysees. Most recently, the property was purchased by the owners of the well-known Hotel Relais Christine , given a complete face lift by decorator Bambi Sloan and re-opened in 2011 sporting a flamboyant and fashionable look that stops just short of excessive.
So, here it is: Sober on the outside, fascinating on the inside. Its 48 rooms and suites are each individually decorated with an abundance of leopard print carpets, velvet settees, Victorian curios and brooding ancestor portraits lining the halls and staircases.
Also on premises are a library- bar (with 12,000 books), a restaurant, and a delightful garden, where drinks are served at sunset. There is even a Smartcar parked in front of the hotel, which guests can use any time! The more I read about the Saint James, the more I dreamed of checking in and so, in July, 2012, my husband and I enjoyed this romantic escape for one night.
